Associate/Full Professor in Early Childhood or Elementary Education

The Seidel School of Education at Salisbury University welcomes applications for the position of Associate or Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Early and Elementary Education. This is a tenured position that has a 10-month contract with a stipend for the summer.

The successful applicant will be an early childhood or elementary education generalist (with an emphasis in integrated arts education or literacy preferred). This applicant will join a highly collaborative department that offers a Bachelor of Science in elementary education (grades 1-6) and early childhood education (Pre-K-grade 3), as well as a dual certification in elementary and early childhood education. The Department of Early and Elementary Education programs are approved by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).

Our faculty are engaged in local Professional Development Schools, working closely with prospective candidates and interns. We have a collaborative, international program that provides an opportunity for teacher candidates to intern in New Zealand. The integration of new technologies for teaching, including the use of mobile devices, interactive boards, and Web-based learning, is a department priority among faculty. Primary Job Duties: We seek a candidate who will advance our mission by supporting faculty scholarship, teaching, and service; provide strategic leadership at all levels of the academic community; manage recruitment and program growth; and attract and mentor diverse faculty. Administrative expectations include leadership of the departmental faculty, staff, and students; coordination of the department's academic programs in alignment to state accreditation requirements and national accrediting organizations; departmental representation and advocacy; and management of the departmental budget.

Other responsibilities include: teaching in the Early Childhood and/or Elementary Professional Teacher Education Program (PTEP); promoting innovation through the use of technology for academic achievement in early and elementary classrooms; dissemination of scholarship; participation in our Professional Development School partnerships; a commitment to university, professional, and/or community service; and demonstration of strong interpersonal skills necessary for working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and external constituents.

Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctoral degree in early childhood or elementary education or related field and a scholarly record appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure; experience teaching in F2F, hybrid, and online contexts; three years of teaching experience in PreK-8 classroom settings; experience with program assessment and/or accreditation; demonstrated record of continued and productive engagement with the professional community; and a commitment to implementing and advancing the values of inclusion and diversity across school levels.

Preferred Qualifications: Early childhood or elementary education teacher preparation experience. Demonstration of integrated technology to enhance the teaching and learning process. Clinical field supervision experience. Demonstrated success recruiting and retaining students from underrepresented backgrounds. Positive record as a department administrator with effective team and consensus building experience.
