SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today's workplace. LWTech offers ten applied bachelor's degrees, more than 40 associate degrees and 93 professional certificates, in 43 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

Annual Renewable with the possibility of being Tenure Track based on experience
Lake Washington Institute of Technology is seeking an enthusiastic full-time, tenure track Early Childhood Education (ECE) instructor to join our educational team. As an ECE instructor, you will teach and guide students who are currently or plan to become teachers of children or parents, and directors or owners of in home or childcare centers. This is a full time position with possible conversion to tenure track that reports to the Dean of Instruction.
The majority of ECE classes are taught in the evenings and Saturdays.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Plan and teach a variety of ECE courses to meet professional technical program goals
  • Align course content with Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) licensing requirements, WA State Core Competencies for Early and Education Professionals, WA Early Learning Guidelines, and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Position Statements.
  • Advise students about ECE educational and career pathways, and create academic plans.
  • Facilitate student learning through various teaching/learning methods and implement effective course design features.
  • Communicate expectations, establish clear grading criteria, and provide feedback to students and grades in an effective and timely manner
  • Develop course syllabi, find resources and materials that support the instructional process, and maintain appropriate records.
  • Design, revise and enhance ECE courses on an ongoing basis.
  • Assess student learning related to the course outcomes and complete program reviews.
  • Integrate effective college strategies for students, college-wide outcomes, anti-bias and culturally responsive teaching, equity-based approaches, inclusive course features, and necessary employment skills (communication, teamwork, and critical thinking) into courses.
  • Develop and maintain classroom and lab procedures, including safety, that follow local, state, and federal policies and procedures.
  • Utilize online learning management systems such as Canvas as a method of instruction, additional technology to teach in the Hyflex modality, and online technology to increase student interaction during video class sessions.
  • Plan and collaborate with other ECE faculty through quarterly meetings and share resources to enhance ECE course content.
  • Pursue and engage in appropriate professional development activities to stay current in the field of ECE, including information about licensing requirements, and participation in the Early Childhood Teacher Prep Council monthly webinars, and retreats (fall and spring).
  • Write, manage, and participate in ECE and related grants.
  • Develop and maintain industry and community support for the program through active engagement; coordinate advisory committee membership and meetings; attend advisory committee meetings; keep current with industry and discipline area changes.
  • Actively participate as a team member in program management and campus initiatives; be familiar with and advance the college's mission, vision, goals, and strategic plan and how they Follow college, local, state, and federal policies and procedures.
  • Attend department, division, and college meetings as appropriate.
  • Develop a strong working and collaborative relationship with the Director of the Early Learning Center (ELC).
  • Work with college counselors, disability support services, financial aid, student services, workforce development, l-BEST, library staff, and other faculty to enhance student learning experiences and student achievement.
  • Other duties as assigned.


In addition, full-time faculty will also:
  • Maintain regular office hours
  • Develop and assess program, curriculum, and educational outcomes.
  • Perform advising, recruiting, and retention activities
  • Take part in college accreditation, program review, and college committees as specified in the faculty bargained agreement
  • May receive, as approved, release time to work on professional growth activities
  • Perform other professional activities as approved by the Dean


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in early childhood education, education, or related field
  • Reading, writing, and speaking fluency in second language (preferred)
  • Minimum two years' Full-Time ECE related work experience required
  • Minimum of two years' college ECE teaching experience preferred with evidence of ability to teach theory and application
  • Experience teaching preschoolers, toddlers, and/or infants preferred
  • Experience writing and managing external grants preferred
  • Familiarity with DCYF licensing requirements and guidelines as well as the National Education of Young Children (NAEYC) position statements
  • Current college online learning management systems experience preferred
  • Valid First Aid card or ability to obtain same within 30 days of employment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with culturally and linguistically diverse students, staff, and community from diverse backgrounds, and a commitment to equity and social justicebased approaches to work.


SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Compensation & Work Schedule
Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. This positions ranges from $67,978-$73,006 per year; salary is for an academic year (173 days) and as may be adjusted according to the faculty bargained agreement. Working hours are usually Monday through Friday between 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, with some evening advising and other flexible hours as needed. Summer quarter employment may be available based on student enrollment. This is a full-time, Annual Renewable position.
