WHAT YOU'LL DO

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, plan, organize and evaluate learning experience for ECE students and for the development of children in a children's center learning lab environment; provide for the intellectual, social, emotional, mental and physical development of participating children.
The current vacancy is a full-time position (12 months/year, 40 hours/week) located at Oxnard College.

Oxnard College was founded in 1975 and is the newest of the three community colleges in the county. Set on 118 acres and located two miles from Pacific Ocean beaches, the college is easily accessible by the Ventura Freeway (Highway 101) or the Pacific Coast Highway.

The Oxnard College Child Development Center provides on-campus childcare and early childhood education to children between the ages of 2.9 years through 5 years and also serves as a model lab school for college students who are learning child-development-center to observe and work with children.

SALARY PLACEMENT
New Employees: Generally, new employees are placed on the first step of the appropriate range of the salary schedule.
Current Employees: An employee who is promoted will be placed on the salary step of the new range of the appropriate salary schedule that provides a minimum increase comparable to a one-step increase in salary.

New and current employees may be eligible for advanced step placement as outlined in Section 290 - SALARY PLAN in the Rules of the Personnel Commission for Classified Employees (Download PDF reader).

In addition to the 8% salary increase already reflected in the bulletin, the Board of Trustees has approved a 4% increase set for 7/31/2023.

This recruitment is being conducted to establish a list of eligible candidates that will be used to fill district-wide, current and upcoming, temporary and regular vacancies for the duration of the list, not to exceed one year.

Representative Duties
Plan, organize and direct a daily curriculum including activities designed to promote physical, emotional, creative and cognitive development in infant/toddlers, pre-school and/or school age children. E

Provide information to and assist college students with techniques of working with individual and groups of children. E

Train student assistants; observe and evaluate student teacher activities; assist in developing effective adult-child relationships. E

Work with small and large groups of children in a variety of age-appropriate activities such as creative arts, mathematics, perceptual motor skills, science, language and social studies, both indoors and outdoors according to planned schedules. E

Assist children with hygiene procedures as necessary; observe and evaluate health needs of children and take appropriate action. E

Prepare instructional materials; work with director/supervisor to assign college students, student assistants, and volunteers to teaching areas and responsibilities; maintain a variety of records. E

Provide supervision and be a working role model to student assistants, observers, and ECE students. E

Attend staff meetings, parent conferences, orientations, and in-service training programs as assigned. E

Assure standards of safety, health and cleanliness of the center are maintained. E

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to Children's Center Permit plus two years experience working with an infant/toddler or preschool/children's program or Child Development Permit - Teacher Level.

Required Licenses and Permits

Children's Center Permit OR Child Development Permit - Teacher Level

Valid First Aid and CPR Certificates

EXAMINATION AND SELECTION PROCESS:

A) Technical Interview = 100% weighting on final score


TECHNICAL INTERVIEW DATE RANGE AND LOCATION:
Date Range: Monday, May 8, 2023 - Friday, May 12, 2023
Location: The Technical Interview will be conducted remotely, using Zoom. In order to participate in the internet, you must have access to a computer with a camera, microphone, speakers, and a reliable connection to the internet.

The examination components are subject to change as needs dictate. All communication regarding this process will be delivered via email.

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications as stated, including the possession of licenses, certifications, or other requirements, by the filing deadline in order to move forward in the recruitment process. ELIGIBILITY LIST:
Upon completion of the examination, the eligibility list will be compiled by combining the final examination score with applicable seniority and veteran's credits, if any. The candidates will be ranked according to their total score on the eligibility list. Certification will be made from the highest three ranks of the eligibility list. This eligibility list will be used to fill current vacancies for up to one year from the date of the technical interview.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
All appointments made from eligibility lists for initial appointment or for promotion, with certain exceptions, shall be probationary for a period of six (6) months or one hundred thirty (130) days of paid service, whichever is longer. Classified management, police, and designated executive classifications shall be probationary for a period of one (1) year of paid service from initial appointment or promotion.
